On the second day of Pride Week, a performance of “The Sworn Virgin” was presented as part of the Heartefact Theater program. The play was produced by Qendra Multimedia from Prishtina. The audience at DorćolPlatz had the opportunity to enjoy the performance of three brilliant actors who visually portrayed all aspects of the social phenomenon of women who, out of necessity for emancipation, choose to take on a male identity. The playwright of this text, Jeton Neziraj, who is also known to the Belgrade audience for plays like “Handke Project” and “Bordel Balkan,” told the story of the life of a “virgin,” and all the trials it carries, from the perspective of one of them, Sosa (Stanka). Sosa decides to become a “virgin,” thereby permanently abandoning her female side and the right to sexuality.
After the performance, director Erson Zimberi remarked: “We had such a great time in Belgrade, and the whole crew of Heartefact were so lovely. The audience loved the show and the applause that lasted so long warmed our hearts. It was important to me also as a director to show my performance for the first time on a Serbian stage, especially in Belgrade.”
The performance of “The Sworn Virgin” was supported by the Office of the European Union in Kosovo as part of the Reconnection 2.0 project, implemented by Qendra Multimedia and Heartefact.
