Following its Belgrade premiere in May this year, the Sarajevo premiere of the play They Are All Gone by Doruntina Basha, directed by Andrej Nosov, was held on November 11 at the Sarajevo War Theatre SARTR. The production is part of the official program marking the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, through which SARTR and its partner organizations highlight the importance of remembrance culture and artistic testimony. Additional performances are scheduled for November 12 and 13.
The cast features Mirjana Karanović, Svetozar Cvetković, and Alban Ukaj, along with the actors of the Sarajevo War Theatre. The play examines our collective position—how we understand and relate to those who survived the genocide in Srebrenica.
“Despite all its complexities, I believe this Sarajevo premiere will carry a special note—because in the audience there will be people who lived through and fortunately survived the period we are talking about,” said director Andrej Nosov ahead of the premiere, emphasizing the emotional weight of staging the play in Sarajevo.
SARTR’s director, Maja Salkić Burazerović, expressed her gratitude to our team for the years of work and research invested in the project: “We know that Heartefact has been working in the field of dealing with the past for many years. They spent more than four or five years on this project and ultimately arrived at the text written by Doruntina Basha. It is a very intimate story.”
The production also features Sarajevo actors: Maja Salkić, Davor Sabo, Kemal Rizvanović, Matea Mavrak, Hana Zrno, Sanin Milavić, Faruk Hajdarević, Alen Konjicija, Natalia Dmitrieva, and Dino Hamidović.
In December, the play will have its third premiere—this time in New York, at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club!
The play is a co-production of Heartefact (Serbia), Sarajevo War Theater SARTR (BiH) and My Balkans (USA, Serbia), in cooperation with La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club (USA), Ibsen Scope (Norway) and Allianz Foundation (Germany).
