This June, Heartefact brings No Apologies! to Prishtina, presenting the internationally acclaimed performance by Emma Frankland at Termokiss on June 3. As an independent cultural organisation and producer of socially engaged theatre supporting LGBTQ+ communities, Heartefact initiates and organises the No Apologies! Balkan tour as a platform for dialogue, exchange and connection across the region, creating space for encounters between artistic practice, communities and queer experiences across different local contexts.
Created and performed by Emma Frankland, No Apologies! blends theatre, live music, autobiography and performance art into a work that moves through memory, identity and cultural inheritance. Drawing inspiration from Nirvana’s iconic 1993 MTV Unplugged concert, the performance reimagines this cultural moment through a radical speculative question: What if Kurt Cobain had been a trans woman?
Rather than returning to the past through nostalgia, No Apologies! uses this premise to rethink cultural memory and imagine alternative queer histories. At its centre is a deeply personal exploration of trans experience and queer identity, reflecting on visibility, belonging and the absence of cultural references that many queer and trans people grow up with. Through live music, storytelling and performance, the work asks what happens when archives are missing, when mirrors do not exist, and how new histories can be created in their place.
The Prishtina presentation extends beyond the performance itself through a community programme dedicated primarily to the LGBTIQ+ community. Following the performance, audiences are invited to a conversation with Emma Frankland, providing a platform for dialogue around the themes of the work, trans and queer experience, artistic practice and the creation of alternative memories and futures.
Attendance is free with mandatory registration. To register, please send an email at [email protected] with the subject line: No Apologies Registration.
