Skopje is set to become a vibrant hub for culture dialogue this spring. From May 14th to 16th, 2026, Heartefact Fund North Macedonia will host the Culture for Development Forum, a gathering dedicated to the visionaries who keep the independent spirit of the Western Balkans and Europe alive
This Forum is our collective response to challenges independent artists and cultural organizations are facing. It is a space where we reassert the value of the culture through shared responsibility and cross-border friendship. At Heartefact Fund, we believe that this independent practice is far more than just “art”, it is a public good and the very heartbeat of a resilient, inclusive society.
Part of the Culture for Development Forum is CAE South-East Europe Satellite BEYOND, a meeting dedicated to collective reflection, dialogue, and transformative work among independent cultural actors, networks, policy makers, and practitioners from the Western Balkans and Europe. Organized by Heartefact Fund in close partnership with Clubture (Croatia), Platforma Kooperativa (Regional), A25 (Bulgaria), and Euradia Italia (Italy), this gathering aims to amplify the voices of our region and turn our shared reflections into a strategic force.
Over these three days in Skopje, we won’t just talk about policies, we will focus on identifying common priorities and building a coordinated voice to drive real policy approaches that improve the status of the arts at the European level. We will foster shared reflections on topics crucial to the current state of the arts across the continent, both within and outside the EU, from securing sustainable funding and fair working conditions, over artistic mobility, to the long-term resilience of the independent cultural sector.
We invite you to be part of this process where cooperation knows no borders and independent culture finds its rightful place at the center of the European ecosystem.
