From October 5 to 7, 2024, a three-day conference of the European network of playwrights Fabulamundi-New Voces was held in Heartefact House in Belgrade. After the meetings in Rome, Venice and Paris, Belgrade had the opportunity to host 19 playwrights from a dozen European countries and representatives of theaters and art organizations that are part of the network.
The three-day conference started with a tour in the center of Belgrade, where Jasmina Lazović from the Heartefact Institute introduced our guests to important places and events for understanding the historical, political and cultural context of Belgrade and Serbia. The conference participants were welcomed by the director of Hartefakt, Andrej Nosov, as well as Biljana Srbljanović and Patrik Lazić, who represent Heartefact in this important network.
During the next three days, conference participants, in addition to internal workshops and debates, had the opportunity to visit local cultural institutions: National Theatre, Boško Buha Theater, Little Theater Duško Radović, Atelje 212 and the Faculty of Dramatic Arts. These visits were not only an opportunity to get to know the local scene, but also to exchange ideas and experiences that enrich the European theater community, to which Serbia also belongs. Playwrights had the opportunity to engage in discussions with representatives of local institutions, sharing experiences and creative processes from their countries. We would like to thank: Svestislav Goncić, Molina Udovički Fotez, Milena Depolo, Bojana Karajović, Dalija Aćin Telander, Dimitrije Kokanov, Gordana Goncić and their colleagues from the theater.
During the conference, the participants also saw performances at the Bitef Festival, at the National Theater in Belgrade, as well as at Heartefact House. For Heartefact, which has been popularizing the development of dramatic text for more than a decade, among other things through Heartefact’s regional competition for dramatic text, it is significant that we got the opportunity to host this conference, and especially that 19 playwrights from Europe had the opportunity to get acquainted with local cultural scene and theater representatives. It was also announced that our four young authors – Sofija Dimitrijević, Tara Mitrović, Nađa Mišković and Jana Milivojević – will join the new network project.
The project Fabulamundi – New Voices is co-financed by the European Union through the Creative Europe program.
