Our young playwright Nađa Mišković spent last week in Romania, in Targu Mures, where during her residency at Teatrul Ariel she worked on her text “Will we see the sun?” based on the motifs of the Turkish folk tale “80 eyes”.
She explores issues of power, control, and revenge, asking whether revenge can ever bring freedom or just the birth of a new oppressor. Prince Ugur lives in a crystal palace, unaware of the cruelty of his father, who hides 40 of his ex-wives in a dungeon, whose eyes were gouged out because he felt he did not have complete control over them. On his fourteenth birthday, he discovers the truth: his mother is also among the king’s prisoners.
We organize the residency in cooperation with Teatrul Ariel as part of the Playground project supported by the European Union through the Creative Europe project. Twelve young writers from Serbia, France, Italy and Romania have the opportunity to go on a one-week residency in a partner country where they practically examine their texts through work with directors, actors and translators. Apart from Nađa Mišković, representatives of Heartefact are also Jana Milivojević, Sofija Dimitrijević and Tara Mitrović.
