Location: Belgrade (with regional scope โ€“ Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina)
Engagement: Full-time (100%)
Contract type: Fixed-term with possibility of renewal
Start date: As soon as possible

1. About Heartefact

Heartefact is a regional organisation working across art, human rights, and social imagination.
Through its three interconnected components โ€” the Heartefact Fund, the Heartefact Institute, and the Heartefact House โ€” it brings together artistic production, research and education, and civil society engagement.

Operating in multiple countries and languages, Heartefact connects artists, activists, and audiences who imagine and create new ways of understanding and belonging.

As the organisation enters a new phase of development and digital transformation, we are seeking a person who will help us connect these diverse layers into a coherent, living communication system that supports our work and community across the region.

2. Role Summary

The Regional Communication Lead will shape and lead Heartefactโ€™s communication strategy across all countries and programmes โ€” uniting the Fund, Institute, and House under a shared narrative and set of values.

This person will work at the intersection of storytelling, management, and digital innovation, developing both strategic frameworks and hands-on communication practices that strengthen Heartefactโ€™s visibility, accessibility, and impact.

We are looking for a dynamic and collaborative individual, guided by values and curiosity, who enjoys working with others and through others, and who is interested in building new approaches to communication together with the team.

The position includes leading a core communication team of at least two permanent members, as well as coordinating a network of collaborators (designers, videographers, writers, translators) from different parts of the organisation and the region.

The Regional Communication Lead will also promote Heartefactโ€™s theatre productions, artistic residencies, grant programmes, and educational initiatives, as well as the new digital tools and platforms developed to improve cooperation, visibility, and innovation in cultural work.

3. Main Responsibilities

Strategic and Creative Direction

  • Develop and lead theย regional communication strategyย in alignment with Heartefactโ€™s mission, programmes, and digital transformation.
  • Build and manage the communication team (permanent staff and associates).
  • Ensure coherence of tone, message, and visual identity across all Heartefact components (Fund, Institute, House).
  • Coordinate communication for theatre productions, artistic projects, grant programmes, and public events.
  • Lead communication around digital initiatives โ€” tools, resources, and knowledge-sharing platforms that enhance collaboration and innovation in the cultural field.
  • Contribute to shaping new approaches to audience engagement, programme visibility, and community building.
  • Manage the communication budget and contribute to institutional planning.

Editorial and Content Development

  • Curate and supervise theย shared editorial calendarย (website, social media, newsletters, press, subscription).
  • Oversee multilingual content creation (English, Serbian, Albanian, Macedonian), ensuring clarity, consistency, and accessibility.
  • Collaborate with programme teams to translate artistic and social projects into stories that resonate with diverse audiences.
  • Ensure documentation and archiving of communication materials.
  • Define and sustain Heartefactโ€™s narrative voice โ€” empathetic, bold, and contemporary.

Digital Ecosystem

  • Oversee Heartefactโ€™sย websiteย as a living archive and central communication hub.
  • Coordinate the launch and management of theย subscription communityย andย shop.
  • Supervise CRM systems and analytics tools (Mailchimp, Airtable/Notion, social media insights).
  • Analyse communication performance and audience trends to guide future strategies.

Media and Public Relations

  • Maintain relationships with media outlets, cultural networks, and European partners.
  • Prepare press materials, interviews, and campaigns for productions, projects, and events.
  • Strengthen Heartefactโ€™s media presence and position as a key voice in the regional cultural landscape.

Collaboration and Capacity Building

  • Work horizontally with programme teams across all Heartefact components.
  • Encourage collaborative communication planning and collective authorship.
  • Support colleagues and partners in developing communication skills and storytelling practices.
  • Foster experimentation, curiosity, and a learning mindset in all communication processes.

4. Expected Results and Deliverables

  • Regional communication strategy and implementation plan.
  • Updated, multilingualย websiteย integrated with subscription and shop.
  • Consistent digital presence and recognisable Heartefact identity across all channels.
  • Communication and promotional campaigns for theatre productions, grants, and educational programmes.
  • Strengthened community and subscriber engagement.
  • Quarterly communication analytics and impact reports.

5. Candidate Profile

Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimumย 5 years of experienceย in communication, media, or public engagement within culture, arts, or civil society.
  • Proven ability to design and manage communication strategies and teams.
  • Familiarity with regional cultural and social contexts (Serbia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, BiH).
  • Excellent writing and editing skills inย English and Serbian; working knowledge ofย Albanian or Macedonianย is an advantage.
  • Strong digital literacy (WordPress or similar CMS, Mailchimp, social media analytics, CRM tools).

Skills and Competences

  • Creative and analytical mindset, able to connect strategy and content.
  • Leadership that is collaborative and empowering.
  • Excellent interpersonal and coordination skills.
  • Visual sensitivity and storytelling intuition.
  • Openness to experimentation and learning across cultures.

6. Values and Approach

We are looking for someone who sees communication as aย collective creative actย โ€” a way of connecting people, ideas, and practices.

A person who works horizontally, with curiosity and empathy, and who values both process and impact.
Someone who enjoys teamwork, reflection, and the challenge of shaping communication that is as dynamic and diverse as Heartefact itself.

This role is designed with a phased approach and realistic prioritisation. The responsibilities listed above represent the full scope of the position, but they will be phased and prioritised in alignment with the organisationโ€™s needs and the Communication Leadโ€™s realistic capacity. The Communication Lead will work with an expanding team and set priorities collaboratively with senior management.

7. Application Process

Interested candidates should submit:

  • Aย CVย outlining relevant experience.
