The Open Society Foundations – Western Balkans invites you to the opening of the exhibition UKRAINE: LOVE + WAR (2014-2024) which will take place on Friday, November 15, 2024 at 6 p.m. at the Europe House in Belgrade (Zmaj Jovina 8).
The exhibition is inspired by the book of the same name published by FotoEvidence, which is a testimony of the devastating impact of Russian aggression on Ukrainian society, captured through the lenses of 95 international photojournalists. The book contains 240 photographs taken over ten years of the war in Ukraine, while the exhibition will showcase 50 selected works. These photographs bring us human stories of hope, sacrifice, determination and love.
At the exhibition opening, the following speakers will address the audience:
– Miodrag Milosavljević, Deputy Director of the Open Society Foundation – Western Balkans
– Tomislav Žigmanov, Minister for Human and Minority Rights and Social Dialogue in the Government of the Republic of Serbia
– H.E. Volodymyr Tolkach, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Serbia
– H.E. Emanuele Giaufret, Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia
– Svetlana Bachevanova, Executive Director of FotoEvidence and the exhibition’s curator
Ahead of the exhibition, which will be open from November 15 to 23, the organizer invites you to two additional events:
- a screening of the film Twenty Days in Mariupol, which won the 2024 Oscar for Best Documentary Film – November 13 at 7 p.m. at the Vlada Divljan Cultural Center (Mitropolita Petra 8)
- a discussion on socially engaged art in times of crisis and the book Ukraine: Love+War (2014-2024), featuring:
– Svetlana Bachevanova, Executive Director of FotoEvidence and exhibition curator
– Gaelle Girbes, French photographer living in Ukraine since 2017
– Evgeniy Maloletka, Ukrainian photographer, journalist, and filmmaker
– Branislav Dimitrijević, Professor of Art History and Theory
