Last night, Heartefact House hosted a public reading of the play “Throw Her, Putin, and Be Precise” by Mirza Skenderagić, which was selected as the best play by the jury of last year’s Heartefact regional Competition for the Best Contemporary Engaged Full-Length Play. This is not Skenderagić’s first win at the Heartefact competition — his play “Wake Me Up When It’s Over” won the award in 2016.
The head of Heartefact House, Aleksandra Lozanović, read the jury’s statement, after which Skenderagić addressed the audience. The public reading was directed by Ognjen Dragović and performed by Budimir Stošić, Anđela Krunić, Aleksandra Maraš, Dina Vučaj, and Marko Miljković.
On this occasion, the fourteenth edition of the competition for the best contemporary engaged full-length play written in Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Slovenian, Macedonian, or Montenegrin was officially announced. Authors residing in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia, North Macedonia, and Serbia are eligible to apply.
The first prize includes a monetary award of 600,000 RSD, as well as the purchase of performance rights for the premiere staging of the winning play, produced by Heartefact in collaboration with one of the regional theaters.
Founded with the aim of creating space for new authors to work and thrive, the contest encourages dialogue on vital social issues such as human rights, freedom of speech, collective memory, and accountability.
The competition is open until October 15, 2025.
This year’s jury consists of prominent regional experts in dramaturgy:
Nejra Babić Halvadžija, dramaturge and playwright from Sarajevo
Gordana Goncić, dramaturge and acting director of Atelje 212 Theater in Belgrade
Biljana Srbljanović, playwright and professor of dramaturgy in Belgrade.
