As part of this year’s event “World Poetry Day(s) 2023,” on Wednesday, March 29th, starting at 6 p.m. in the hall of the Cultural Center of Belgrade, a poetry performance was held where some of the best contemporary European poets recited their poetry: Radmila Petrović from Serbia, Anja Zag Golob from Slovenia, Małgorzata Lebda from Poland, and Hari Hertel from Finland.
During the interactive tour at the Cultural Center of Belgrade, the numerous audience had four different encounters with four poets at four locations. Throughout the performance, we explored various ways contemporary poetry can be presented to the audience – from traditional readings to more performative and theatrical approaches.
The diverse audience that attended the poetry performance last night once again testified to the relevance of contemporary poetry, which is alive and vibrant. The entire event took place as part of the international meeting of poets, poetry, and artistic teams from five countries involved in the project “Poets of Today – Voices of Tomorrow.” This innovative project brings together organizations from Slovenia (Pionirski dom), Poland (ARTeria), Hungary (Pro Progressione), Finland (Association of Finnish Cultural Centers for Children), and Serbia (Heartefact), with the aim of bringing contemporary poetry closer to young people and the local community through a series of multi-year activities. What follows in the months ahead within this project are workshops for young poets with an artistic and pedagogical team composed of 24 high school teachers in Serbia. Their joint task is to devise how to present poetry to young people during visits to high schools. We announce new poetry events soon!
The project “Poets of Today – Voices of Tomorrow” is supported by the European Union through the Creative Europe program.
