On June 23rd of this year, in the Botanical Garden in Belgrade, the 31st BELEF festival will open with the poetry performance “Poets of Today, Voices of Tomorrow.” Poet Radmila Petrović and 10 young poets will present their poetry in a new and unique way. They will recite their poems at locations that hold particular symbolism and significance for our city and culture, connecting art, nature, and the city. This site-specific event will allow the audience to experience Belgrade, its cultural heritage, and the works of contemporary young artists in a different way, showcasing the significance of contemporary poetry in Serbia.
The performance in the Botanical Garden is organized as one of the activities within the international project “Poets of Today, Voices of Tomorrow,” implemented in Serbia by Heartefact. This is a large-scale multi-year European project aimed at bringing poetry and contemporary poets closer to young people and the local community through the development of new performative forms of poetry presentation. Project partners include Pionirski dom from Slovenia, the Association of Children’s Cultural Centers from Finland, Pro Progressione from Hungary, and the Arteria Foundation from Poland.
The artistic team behind the project in Serbia includes poet Radmila Petrović, actress Vanja Ejdus, composer Draško Adžić, and theater director Andrej Nosov. Through a public call, members of the artistic team selected 10 young poets to collaborate with, with whom they prepared this performance: Aleksa Krstić, Anđela Đokić, Danilo Brakočević, Jelena Marinkov, Marija Dragnić, Maša Seničić, Milica Milosavljević, Stefan Mitić, Tihana Smiljanić, and Valentina Baktijarević.
The project “Poets of Today, Voices of Tomorrow” will run until 2025 and is supported by the European Union through the Creative Europe program.
