Heartefact is pleased to invite applications for the 2023 Kosovo-Serbia research fellowship program. Fellowships are available for six primarily young to mid-career professionals (three from Kosovo and three from Serbia) working at local or national institutions, academia, opinion makers, analysts, researchers, or publicly exposed individuals engaged in new media, IT and creative industries. The fellows are supposed to conduct the research which should focus on creating new and constructive narratives on Kosovo-Serbia relations, ranging from political issues to topics related to economy and business, culture, sports, legacy of the conflict past or any other politically or socially relevant area. During their stay in residency in Belgrade and Prishtina, the fellows will have the opportunity to impact public narratives by developing advocacy actions in relation to their research and bring to the wider public new perspectives.
Technical details: Fellowships run for a full 3-month period (any three months in a row in the period of May-December 2023, with the possibility of entering 2024). They consist of two months of research at the place of the fellows’ residence and one-month residency in Belgrade or Prishtina (whichever differs from the place of their origin). Fellows will receive stipends of 2880 USD (gross amount) for the duration of the program. In addition, their accommodation in Belgrade or Prishtina will also be covered by Heartefact. During the implementation of this program, Heartefact will offer its fellows with logistical and programmatic support.
Application procedure: Candidates for fellowship are invited to submit their applications (preferable, but not mandatory, in English) which should include:
- Candidate’s CV
- Research proposal with up to three pages of text with following details:
- abstract for the research idea,
- topic relevance and/or motivation to work on the proposed topic,
- research methodology,
- timeline,
- needed resources, including access to archive materials and/or press clipping,
- target groups for potential interviews (if relevant).
The deadline for submissions via e-mail [email protected] is 14th April 2023.
Please note that incomplete applications will not be considered.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
Selection procedure: The fellows will be selected through an open call and peer-review panel consisting of individuals who represent prominent figures in building relations between Kosovar and Serbian societies. Heartefact is looking for stories which oppose the dominant narratives of constant disputes between Albanian and Serbian people and is willing to support research fellowships which bring new perspectives on the causes of current political situations or open perspectives on cooperation and building the trust between two societies.
About Heartefact: Heartefact is a multi-disciplinary organization based in Belgrade which convenes and maintains fora where cultural and social reality is critically questioned, the past is remembered and learnt from, individuality is encouraged and talent is celebrated, creative and forward-thinking individuals are empowered to try and allowed to fail—so that the cultural and public space for all people is diversified, enriched, made vibrant and more accepting towards differences. Heartefact is dedicated to fostering a creative, critical and responsible rethinking of emerging artistic, social and political issues and phenomena at national, regional and European levels. It is advocating new models of production, regional cooperation and alternative forms of education.
