Institutional support provides organizations with resources for their day-to-day program and institutional operations. Mentorship builds on this by creating space for the organizations, to address specific organizational challenges and develop approaches for more systematic and long-term work.
As part of the Institutional Grant scheme and with the support of Helvetas, the Mentorship Program brought together six experts from the region and provided support to five local cultural organizations: Centre for Contemporary Arts (CAC), LOKOMOTIVA, TiiiT! Inc., KONTRAPUNKT, and Faculty of Things That Cannot Be Learned (FRU).

From April to August 2026, the experts worked closely with the organisations, through a process of individual consultations, exchange, feedback and hands-on support. Rather than applying a standard capacity building model, each mentorship was tailored to the needs of each organization and started from existing practices, priorities and challenges. Together with their mentors, organizations identified areas for improvement, explored possible approaches and worked on practical solutions that could be integrated into their everyday work.
The process covered the different aspects of organisational development, including financial sustainability, strategic and organizational planning, internal processes and development of practical tools and working frameworks. The focus was not only producing individual strategies or documents, but on enabling organizations to apply the knowledge, tools and approaches developed through the process in their ongoing work.
The mentorships resulted in practical strategies, tools and working approaches that organizations can continue to use beyond the mentorship period.. These provide a stronger foundation for planning, managing resources and making decisions, while supporting organizations to respond to challenges and build on their work after the mentorship period has ended.
More than one time intervention, the mentorship program created a foundation for these organizations to continue adapting and strengthening the way they work in the years ahead.
