From October 23 to 26, 2025, Heartefact organized the Kosovo–Serbia Visiting Program, held in Belgrade. The program gathered six participants from Kosovo – activists, cultural workers, and researchers – for a four-day visit dedicated to women’s rights, gender equality, and the prevention of sexual violence.
Throughout their stay, participants met with leading feminist and human rights organizations from Belgrade, including the Autonomous Women’s Center and Befem, as well as individuals such as Hristina Cvetinčanin Knežević, creator of platform Feminizam iz teretane. The meetings provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge, experiences, and practices related to advocacy, feminist organizing, and public engagement.
The culmination of the visit was participation in the regional conference Yes Means Yes, which brought together activists and experts from Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Kosovo, and Serbia. The event opened a space for dialogue on the definition of rape within the legal frameworks of these countries, as well as the broader social and cultural understanding of consent and sexual violence. During the conference, program participants had the opportunity to meet with team members from the Institute 8th of March, a well-known activist organization from Slovenia, who shared their expertise in campaigning, advocacy, human rights, and gender equality. In addition, participants engaged in discussions with activists from Serbia, including Ljiljana Todorović Jovanović from the FemIn Collective from Požarevac and Aneta Đukić from the Fenomena Association from Kraljevo. Participants contributed perspectives from law, sociology, humanities, art, media and human rights, fostering a multidisciplinary exchange of ideas and strategies.
Apart from formal sessions, the program created space for informal networking and collaboration. Participants established new professional connections, explored future partnerships, and reflected on shared regional challenges and opportunities for solidarity.
In addition to the meetings that followed the thematic line of the entire visiting program, participants also had the opportunity to attend important cultural events, such as the performance Our Son at Heartefact House, as well as the exhibition Milestones to Modernity: Art of Society 1900–1945 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade.
Following this visit, the Kosovo–Serbia Visiting Program will continue in December 2025, when Heartefact will organize a return visit to Priština, where participants from Serbia will meet with Kosovo-based organizations and activists, further strengthening cross-border cooperation and feminist alliances in the region.
This visiting program was carried out as part of the project “Fostering Cross-border Dialogue and Civic Engagement” which Heartefact implements with support from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
