After successful performances in Bratislava and Dresden, the play ‘Our Son’ was performed on November 16th at the Lazarevac Cultural Center, marking the beginning of Hartefakt’s queer caravan. Over the next year, Heartefact’s socially engaged plays will visit places in Serbia where independent theater performances are not frequent, especially those with minority and queer perspectives.
In the play ‘Our Son,’ written and directed by Patrick Lazić, the boundaries of acceptance and rejection are examined. After a young man comes out to his parents, they try to live with the knowledge that their son is different. Family dinner rituals become a major dramatic turning point. Heartefact’s plays that explore queer perspectives include ‘Would Be a Shame If the Plants Died’ and ‘Before We Begin.’
After each performance, Heartefact organizes discussions with the audience, aiming to raise important social issues in environments where it is often challenging to be “different.” We will soon announce new dates where, besides at Heartefact House in Belgrade, our plays can be seen.
The Queer Caravan is supported by the Swedish Institute through the Creative Partnership program.
