With the performance “(Mis)fit,” created as a collaborative project by actor and director Luka Mihovilović and actress and director Gea Gojak, produced by the Istrian National Theatre, the Heartefact theater program of Pride Week was ceremoniously opened on Monday, September 4th, at the Belgrade International Theater Festival (BITEF).
On this occasion, director Gea Gojak stated: “We are extremely honored that the play, which was created in 2017, was performed for the first time in front of the diverse Belgrade audience. The audience’s reactions once again demonstrated how important it is to address discrimination, stereotypes, prejudices, and taboos in our society.
The play “(Mis)fit” emerged from the need to question and critically examine the social and moral values that our society holds, and despite our differences, affinities, and beliefs, it attempts to fit and adapt the individual to molds that often hinder freedom and the authenticity of individual development. We can wholeheartedly say that once again, the audience recognized themselves in the situations and content, following a person’s life from their earliest years to maturity, and that the play has opened up space for a much-needed conversation in our society.”
