In Paris, Croatian director and actor Romano Nikolić is currently in an artistic residency with the partner organization El Vaiven as part of the Eclectic of Otherness project, co-financed by the European Union through the Creative Europe program.
Romano Nikolić has been collaborating with the creative team of the play The Rabbit House for nearly a year, first in the research and concept development phase, and then directly participating in the rehearsals, both online and offline. During his residency in Paris, he contributed to completing the first version of the play, which will have a public showcase in September as part of the process toward the final version and premiere. Additionally, since the play will also be performed in Zagreb in November, Romano Nikolić is assisting in adapting the play to ensure its comprehensibility within the context of contemporary Croatia.
EoO is a partnership initiative of three cultural organizations from Serbia, Croatia, and France, and is dedicated to exploring identity tensions between “us” and “them,” insiders and outsiders, those we believe belong, and those excluded from that privilege. EoO reveals and respects the challenges faced by the unknown, foreigners, outsiders, immigrants, newcomers, and refugees on their difficult journeys to safety and freedom, highlighting the challenges they face in navigating new lives and identities. The Rabbit House is based on the autobiographical novel by Laura Alcobe, about a young girl growing up under a dictatorship in Argentina at the time.
The project coordinator is the Heartefact Fund, and the project runs from February 2023 to January 2025. The project is co-financed by the European Union.
