Theater Festivity of Otherness in Belgrade from December 5 to 7

After two years of artistic research as part of the Eclectic of Otherness project co-financed by the European Union, we are proud to announce the “Festivity of Otherness“, a unique theatrical experience that will confront the audience with three poignant stories and reflections on the human experience, as well as personal stories that shape our world. The Festivity of Otherness is much more than a theater festival – it is an invitation to think, to face the invisible and the unspoken.

Eclectic of Otherness is a partnership initiative of three cultural organizations: Heartefact from Serbia, Arterarij from Croatia and El Vaïvén from France, and is dedicated to exploring identity tensions between Us and Them, insiders and outsiders, those we think belong to, and those who don’t part of that privilege. EoO reveals and honors the problems unknowns, strangers, outsiders, immigrants, newcomers, and refugees face on the difficult paths to safety and freedom and presents the challenges they face in navigating new lives and identities.

The Festivity of Otherness has already been organized in Zagreb in November, and after Belgrade it will be realized in January in Paris. The project is accompanied by a campaign Mozaic of Otherness that focuses on European workers in art and culture, offering their testimonies about what it’s like to be a “stranger” or “other” in a certain context.

From Thursday to Saturday, the audience will have the opportunity to see the performance of exceptional art projects that, through engaged theater, open up space for common understanding, empathy and reflection and open important topics that rarely get enough attention.

PROGRAM OF THE FESTIVITY OF OTHERNESS:

    • December 5 at 8 p.m. performance They have already gone (Heartefact) Through an interactive experience, Andrej Nosov’s immersive performance explores the loss and memory of those who were forcibly disappeared during the wars in the former Yugoslavia. Nosov confronts the audience with the emptiness that remains behind those who are no longer there. This artistic event, rich in documentary materials and intimate soundscapes, creates a space for reflection on collective memory and responsibility towards the past.
    • December 6 at 8 p.m. the play Dog House (Arterarij, Croatia) A story that explores the impact of wartime rape on an individual and society as a whole. The play follows the stories of two families, through which it explores the deep, painful traumas of war that are passed down from generation to generation. Director Romano Nikolić, in collaboration with authors Dorotea Šušak and Mario Mazić, brings an emotionally intense performance that does not leave the audience indifferent. Starring: Anita Matić Delić, Dušan Gojić, Jelena Graovac Lučev, Nikola Nedić and Davor Tarbuk.
    • December 7 at 8 p.m. the play Rabbit House (El Vaiven, France) Directed by Juan Miranda, The Rabbit House depicts memories of growing up in Argentina during the military dictatorship, inspired by Laura Alcoba’s novel of the same name. Through the eyes of a young girl, the audience will experience the emotional nuances of loss, migration and the search for identity, while questioning how past traumas shape the present and future. The play is performed by actress Astrid Albiso.

These performances will not be in the regular repertoire of Heartefact House, so do not miss the opportunity to let the theater take you on a journey through the complex themes that shape our society and ourselves. You can buy tickets for all shows through Heartefact’s website.
