In Belgrade, at the Heartefact House, the kick-off meeting for the Eclectic of Otherness project, co-financed by the European Union through the Creative Europe program, was held this weekend.
Representatives of three organizations – Heartefact from Serbia, Arterarij from Croatia, and El Vaiven from France – discussed future plans for the project during the two-day program, which will run until January 2025. EoO is dedicated to exploring identity tensions between “us” and “them,” insiders and outsiders, those we perceive as belonging, and those who are excluded from that privilege. Through the dissection of identity as an intimate zone of conflict, which is both microscopic and personal, and global and public, EoO reveals and respects the challenges faced by the unknown, foreigners, outsiders, immigrants, newcomers, and refugees on their difficult paths to safety and freedom, presenting the obstacles they face in navigating new lives and identities.
Throughout the project, creative labs, artistic residencies, and public presentations are planned to support the artistic creation process. This includes around fifty artists, three theatrical performances, each exploring the theme, perspective, and origin of “otherness” within a specific context. The Festival of Otherness will be organized in each of the countries, where the performances developed during the project will be presented. Additionally, a campaign will focus on workers in the arts and culture, offering their testimonies about what it means to be a “stranger” or “the other” in a specific context.
The project coordinator is the Heartefact Fund, and the project runs from February 2023 to January 2025. The project is co-financed by the European Union.
