As part of the “Kosovo Theater Showcase” theater festival, which is being organized at the Oda Theater in Pristina, the play “The Kiddo” produced by the Heartefact Fund, will open the festival on October 27. In addition, a panel discussion with the actresses from the play, Mirjana Karanović and Jasna Đuričić, is scheduled for the next day as a part of the festival.
The day after the opening of the festival, “The Kiddo” will be performed at Urosevac, which would be the first time that a local theater production from Serbia has been a guest there in the last thirty years. Based on the text by Dunja Matić, directed by Andrej Nosov, “The Kiddo” represents a cruel analysis of the family and family roles. Putting two generations of female characters on the stage, Dunja Matić asks important questions about the role that women have in today’s society. The author also bravely faces the problems of pregnancy and abortion, presenting them through the perspective of heroines who treat them in accordance with their social roles. The author shows how, even in the absence of men, the heroines of her play create relationships with them and build their identities through that relationship, whether as mothers, sisters, girlfriends or wives. “Kosovo Theater Showcase” lasts until November 1, and is produced by Qendra Multimedia from Pristina. Nine more plays, eight performed by Kosovo actors, will be presented to the audience at the festival until November 1, and in addition to “The Kiddo”, there is also “Naten, Ma”, which will be performed by actors from Albania on Saturday, October 31. The exchange of the play between Belgrade and Pristina is part of the Reconnection project, supported by the European Commission Fund. The aim of the project is to establish lasting relations of cooperation through exchange, primarily cultural / artistic goods in order to normalise relations between the two societies. After the preparations in Kosovo, by the end of the year, a guest performance, produced by Qendra Multimedia will be organized in Belgrade. During the same period, within the Kosovo School project supported by the National Endowment for Democracy, the Heartefact Fund organized the first visit to Pristina with school students. During the two-day intensive program, school participants will have the opportunity to get better acquainted with various institutions in Kosovo and meet with their representatives, in order to actively involve young people in the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade.
