Grants For The Implementation Of Cultural And Artistic Projects

The objective of the call is to support socially relevant and culturally enriching artistic and cultural projects that address critical social issues, foster community development, and promote diversity in artistic practices and expressions.

About the call

The objective of this call is to support the development and implementation of socially relevant and culturally enriching contemporary artistic projects that promote diversity in artistic practices and expressions, address critical social issues, and foster community development.

This call seeks to support initiatives that promote diversity in artistic practices and expressions, with focus on socially engaged cultural productions, particularly in local communities and regions outside of Skopje. Despite facing limited support and funding, these small initiatives provide vital platforms for diverse perspectives and meaningful social critique, encourage dialogue, societal change and amplify the voice of marginalized groups.

This call fosters direct engagement with the audience, particularly in smaller communities where such interactions are often lacking. By supporting the emergence of new voices and empowering citizens to use the independent cultural scene as a platform for expression and to voice their views, the scheme offers opportunities for active participation in cultural content. In doing so, it highlights the importance of civic involvement and provides citizens with a space to engage in dialogue on socially relevant topics.

The Culture for Development Project integrates environmental sustainability, gender, social inclusion, diversity, and decentralization into all aspects of its activities and management. Emphasis is placed on fostering inclusive practices that support youth, women, children and other marginalized groups, while gender equality remains an important driver of creativity and innovation.

Eligible activities

This call seeks to support initiatives that promote diversity in artistic practices and expressions, with a focus on socially engaged cultural productions, particularly in communities and regions outside of the capital.

The Culture for Development project aims to support cultural and artistic initiatives that amplify critical voices and promote inclusion, diversity, and equality, reflecting the rich diversity of the Republic of North Macedonia population. This call seeks projects that produce and promote alternative and critical perspectives, playing a vital role in raising awareness and fostering public debate on key social issues, including inclusion, equality, and social justice.

Thematic priorities: These projects should nurture talent, innovative, and bold artistic and cultural expressions and practices that challenge dominant social and political narratives while also fostering the development of the cultural and artistic scene in the Republic of North Macedonia.

This call is intended for projects that focus on various areas of contemporary cultural and artistic creation: performing arts, visual arts, literature, music, audiovisual arts, comics, photography, design, cultural policy and management.

Eligible activities for funding may include: exhibitions, installations, performances, workshops, lectures and/or similar educational programs, public debates and discussions, audiovisual production, artistic and cultural research, festivals, etc.

Geographic area: All activities must take place only in the Republic of North Macedonia. The Artistic Grant Scheme will prioritize supporting organizations from the independent cultural scene that develop cultural and artistic content addressing the needs of local communities outside Skopje. A minimum of 50% of the funded projects must be implemented in cities and regions beyond the capital, while the remaining funds may be allocated to projects within Skopje. Organizations based in Skopje are also encouraged to apply for projects taking place outside the capital.

This grant scheme encourages collaboration between organizations and cultural institutions, including municipalities, at the local level. It aims to support organizations active in cities outside Skopje to address the needs and pressing social issues of local communities through cultural and artistic expression. The scheme encourages applicants to partner with local cultural institutions to make use of public spaces, helping to reduce costs while fostering collaboration. Eligible costs for co-productions may include small investments in technical equipment, which organizations can purchase for public cultural institutions. This equipment would then be made available for use by the organizations, further promoting resource-sharing and strengthening collaboration between the independent cultural sector and public institutions.

Organizations may collaborate on a cultural and artistic project with other organizations if it leads to better alignment of objectives and more effective implementation. Partnerships are not mandatory but encouraged, when relevant.
