Zlakusanka techno – Citizens’ Association Eufonija

Project description: The essence of the Zlakusanka project lies in the attempt to merge an acoustic concert with a techno event. The artistic intention was to figuratively enter the space encompassing the most diverse forms of electronic music, including techno, through an original compositional intervention. There have been numerous examples of combining classical and techno music, where chamber ensembles or symphony orchestras perform alongside DJs. The distinctive feature of Zlakusanka Techno is the creation of an expression and production of an event that organically incorporates two different contemporary artistic forms, merging these distinct entities into a new one.

The project is intended for audiences open to engagement and interested in new impulses, directions, and ideas in contemporary music, with the aim of contributing to the development of new artistic and hybrid forms as emerging genres. The project was created as an artistic collaboration between Eufonija from Novi Sad, an organisation dedicated to promoting and developing culture, arts, education, and contemporary composition, and composer Draško Adžić, with the involvement of a large number of collaborators. Draško Adžić composed the piece for chamber ensemble, live electronics, and fixed media. The core artistic and creative team, alongside him, included Dobrivoje Milijanović, Jovana Ivanac Milijanović, and Izvanredni Bob. After several months of rehearsals, the composer decided to change the title of the project composition to Zlakusanka, ein Technosalon für Kammerensemble und Live-Elektronik (translated subtitle from German: a techno salon for chamber ensemble and live electronics). The word “techno” was removed from the main title because it was descriptive and therefore unnecessary in the context of the music being created. The subtitle remained in German because it was in Germany that the author first truly experienced techno culture. It was also there that the idea for the Zlakusanka Techno project was conceived. Draško Adžić’s composition Zlakusanka – ein Technosalon für Kammerensemble und Live-Elektronik for clarinet, bass clarinet, percussion, accordion, cello, and live electronics premiered before an audience in Belgrade at Bitef Theatre, followed by a performance at the Serbian National Theatre on its chamber stage.
