Teen Doc Interaction 2024 – Independent Film Centre Filmart

Project description: The project consisted of educational workshops for secondary school students focused on documentary film production and directing, as well as media literacy. The workshops brought together 25 participants, including 12 participants from eight countries in the region and abroad, and 13 students from schools in Serbia. The summer workshop Teen Doc Interaction 2024 in Užice enabled participants to develop and produce four short documentary films. Participants also had the opportunity to attend lectures on contemporary topics in documentary filmmaking and the panel discussion Between Two Fires: Authenticity of Artistic Expression in a Complex Contemporary Environment, held at the Small Stage of the Užice National Theatre. The panel featured Iva Plemić Divjak (producer, president of the Association of Documentary Filmmakers of Serbia – DokSerbia), Doris Bauer (cultural manager, director of Vienna Shorts), Wouter Jansen (distributor, director of the distribution company Square Eyes), and Martina Pospišilova (cultural manager, executive director of Ji.hlava IDFF). The discussion was moderated by Ikonija Jeftić.

The discussion focused on the factors influencing the contemporary film scene, the challenges faced by young documentary filmmakers, and the role of film festivals in encouraging the creativity of filmmakers while also addressing important social issues.

The youth jury awarded the prize for the best documentary during the Interakcija Festival to TEACUPS by directors Alek Grin and Finbar Watson.

The project provided young documentary filmmakers from different countries with an opportunity to meet, exchange experiences, and collaborate. Another significant aspect of the project was the establishment of partnerships in Užice with the Užice Literary Republic Association, Užice Grammar School, Užice National Theatre, Užice City Cultural Centre, and local media.
