Soundscape of Women’s Experience – Association of Citizens Cooperative ARTRUST

Project description The project “Soundscape of Women’s Experience” began with visits to gerontological centers and the promotion of an open call inviting women to participate in group walks around Lake Palić. A total of ten group walks were organized, where senior women walked in silence, exercised, and took photographs of the most striking details along the route. After the walks, they engaged in reflections, which were recorded as audio, with about fifty women from Palić and Subotica participating. During each gathering, artist Jasna Jovićević performed a mini concert. The photographs taken during the walks, as well as those from the past, were used to create a digital postcard collection. In the next phase, artist Jasna Jovićević used audio recordings from the walking routes to create a composition based on segments of the seniors’ stories and the soundscape. She incorporated these elements into an original musical composition for string quartet and wind instruments. The audio stories were recorded and post-produced, and instead of digital postcards, a larger publication was created, containing sixty pages of scientific and creative works by artists and experts from Subotica and Palić, focusing on personal, intimate, and secret experiences of women related to the lake and life around Palić. The publication was printed in 300 copies and distributed for free to the local public. The project culminated with the “Soundscape of Women’s Experience” concert by Jasna Jovićević Quinary on International Women’s Day at the Jazzire Festival in Kostolanji Deže Theater, performed to a full house. The audience had the opportunity to hear a new musical repertoire inspired by the soundscapes and impressions from the project walks. The concert was professionally recorded and uploaded to YouTube for a wider audience. The long-term benefit of this initiative for the local community includes the formation of an informal civic group called “Women’s Circle,” which continues to operate. Additionally, this vulnerable social group was empowered through the expansion of social and cultural activities at the local level, highlighting the changes in the natural and social environment of Lake Palić and its surroundings. The local community was encouraged to embrace tolerance, inclusion, and a more enriched social life for the elderly.
