Job shadowing – use of natural materials – Citizens’ Association WCSCD

Project description: The Job Shadowing program in the village of Gornja Gorevnica near Čačak was implemented in collaboration between the local WCSCD association and architects Sergio Bravo Johnson and Amelie Aranguren. During a ten-day work process with them, the organization members and participants learned about sustainable construction using natural materials. Additionally, they worked with local carpenters on specific adaptations (such as barns, eco-showers, toilets, etc.) using found or recycled natural materials. One of the key questions discussed during the workshop with Amelie Aranguren was how to restore direct contact between food producers and consumers, as this connection is generally not nurtured by the current market system. This often leads to a mutual misunderstanding of the needs of producers and consumers, and the question of how to apply this approach to institutional work was a recurring theme throughout the workshop. Moreover, the focus was also placed on the value of wool, with participants going through the entire process of understanding what wool, as a natural material, reveals about its place, landscape, and the diet of the animal it comes from, as well as how it is processed and turned into a final product. The organization plans to continue working with the architects through further workshops and research.
