Project description: The activities supported through this project included the creation of a contemporary circus performance, accompanied by workshops for children and debates. In the contemporary circus workshops, children selected to participate in the final performance, “Through a Circus Lens,” learned and practiced various circus disciplines such as balancing techniques, juggling, and aerial acrobatics. Parallel to this, workshops titled “Philosophy with Children,” conducted by the Fileo Association from Ruma, explored the theme of diversity. After the successful completion of the workshops, the children and educators collaboratively participated in setting up a performance, which was presented in four elementary schools for children aged 12-14. Following the performance, public discussions were organized on the topics addressed by the show. These discussions were moderated by the Fileo Association, and the children demonstrated a high level of understanding of the themes presented. Based on conversations with the teaching staff of the schools where the performance was staged, the project team concluded that such projects are extremely important for children, greatly contributing to the encouragement of critical thinking in a unique way. As a result, further performances are planned for other schools and theaters. The form and content of the performance also influenced the development of the local audience and their willingness to accept new art forms such as contemporary circus.
