Capacity Building and Affirmation of the Creativity of Artists from Southern and Eastern Serbia – Stethoscope Activist Association – Niš

Project description: As part of this support, training sessions were organized for artists from the southern and eastern regions of Serbia. The first seminar focused on media and digital literacy, providing participants with new theoretical and practical knowledge on media content analysis and the use of media tools to enhance their own strategies for media presence and performance. The second seminar focused on project cycle and event management, covering topics such as project proposal writing and fundraising, project management, monitoring, and evaluation. Later seminars covered cultural event management, campaign organization, copyright protection, and strategic planning in culture. In addition to the educational part, the artistic practices of artists from southern and eastern Serbia were showcased at a Showroom in Niš, which featured a night of slam poetry, a concert, a comic exhibition, and the grand opening of a photography exhibition by artists from southern and eastern Serbia. The photography exhibition highlighted photographers who depict urban themes and, through the aesthetics of realism, document life in these regions. The comic exhibition, in collaboration with the Mezanin Street Gallery and the art group Čaj…Odličan, presented a retrospective display of publications, comics, fanzines, flyers, and visual materials from exhibitions conducted by Čaj…Odličan in Niš, Belgrade, Leskovac, Pirot, and the region over 22 years of promoting alternative and auteur expression in the ninth art. During the project, six radio shows/audio podcasts were recorded and broadcast, showcasing the work of twelve artists from southeastern Serbia whose work is currently relevant, avant-garde, engaged, research-driven, recognizable, and successful, despite challenges. The seminars provided participants with new theoretical and practical skills that will help local artists face future challenges, while the Showroom promoted the featured artists to the local audience in Niš and fostered connections between them. For some artists, this was also their debut on the public stage.
