ABC of Independent Culture – Civic Association SEEcult.org

Project Description: The ABC of Independent Culture project included the production of numerous in-depth textual and video interviews with civil society organizations active in culture and the arts in Belgrade, as well as in other cities across Serbia (Novi Sad, Čačak, Užice, Zrenjanin, Niš, Subotica, Kruševac, Vršac, Smederevo, Požega, Kragujevac, Valjevo). The aim of the project was to decentralize cultural production and improve the visibility of actors within local independent cultural scenes, as well as to highlight the problems and challenges they face.

In this way, the project also created space for initiating public dialogue on potential solutions, while contributing to the preservation and contextualization of their history. It further serves as a foundation for future analyses of cultural policy in this region during a complex historical period.

The ABC of Independent Culture project also included the reconstruction of the SEEcult.org portal, including reprogramming and redesign. This ensured the sustainability of a large database containing hundreds of thousands of texts and various multimedia materials (photographs, video, and audio). In addition, new features were introduced to increase visibility of cultural production and to enhance user interactivity and participation.
