I am Aleksandra Mirković (44) from Belgrade. I graduated from the Faculty of Agriculture and currently work as a membership coordinator at the United City Unions Independence (Serbian: Nezavisnost). My primary focus is on labor and human rights. I have been involved in several projects dedicated to realizing labor rights, one of the key successes being the initiation and implementation of a major national project on labor and human rights during the green transition. This project, implemented by the Belgrade Open School, saw me acting as a coordinator representing the Independence Union. Through seminars in Kolubara, Lazarevac, and Zaječar for nine mining basins, workers were educated about the green transition and their rights within this process. Additionally, I participated in monitoring the development of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan of the Republic of Serbia, our identity card in the Energy Community, covering up to 2030 with forecasts to 2050. I firmly believe that labor and human rights are interconnected; when someone’s dignity and integrity are undermined at work, their human rights are compromised. For years, human rights in our region have been systematically undermined, affecting the right to a dignified life and work as defined by the International Labour Organization. Through the Heartefact project, I aim to develop a plan for a school focused on labor and human rights, targeted at young people up to 35 years old.
