Aca Perić

My name is Aca Perić (41). I was born, raised, and still live in Šabac.

My journey in activism spans over two decades, starting at the Red Cross in Šabac, where I managed various initiatives, served two terms on the Governing Board, and three terms as president of the volunteer unit. One of my proudest achievements was organizing the first international volunteer assembly of the Šabac Red Cross, which included participants from all former Yugoslav countries. In recognition of my humanitarian efforts, I was honored as a distinguished citizen of Serbia in 2009, allowing me to be among the first 50 individuals to travel from Belgrade after visa liberalization, visiting key European institutions in Brussels, Berlin, Paris, and Rome. Since 2016, I have been living with a disability, which has focused my activism on enhancing the lives of people with disabilities. I authored the handbook “Etiquette towards People with Disabilities,” published by the Association of Journalists of Serbia, where I am also a member. Additionally, I am active in the Association of Paraplegics of the Mačva District, working to integrate individuals with disabilities into society. Although the association has 50 members, only two of us are actively involved. Through Heartefact’s program, I aim to create a project to unite all city associations of people with disabilities, enabling us to collectively advocate for our shared interests. My life’s mission is to continue striving for better conditions and increased visibility for people with disabilities across all facets of society.
