Preserving the Anti-Fascist Heritage of Yugoslavia – Propaganda Film

Project Description: The CfD grant enabled the implementation of several components of a project dedicated to preserving the anti-fascist heritage of Yugoslavia. First and foremost, it supported the completion of post-production for the documentary Goodbye, Heroes (Doviđenja Heroji) by Vladimir Milovanović. Film editor Dragan Petrović was engaged, and the rights to the complete archival materials were secured. Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) joined the project as a co-producer, and following its festival premiere, the film will be broadcast on the national television network.

The project also organized a Memorial Weekend in Prijepolje and at the Boško Buha Memorial Complex in Jabuka. The event was intentionally held on the anniversary of Boško Buha’s death, coinciding with the traditional Memorial Gathering, a commemorative event that had been held at the memorial complex since the mid-1960s, bringing together hundreds of children from across Yugoslavia. As part of the program, Dr. Sanja Petrović Todosijević of the Institute for Recent History of Serbia led an expert-guided tour of the memorial complex—which spans ten hectares and includes twenty monuments—for students and teachers from Vladimir Perić Valter Primary School (Prijepolje) and Svetozar Marković Primary School (Brodarevo), as well as interested citizens of Prijepolje and members of the local community from the village of Jabuka.

Members of Reflektor Theatre performed the stage poem A Hero Without a Nation, written for the occasion by playwright Milena Bogavac. The recital took place on the hill above the memorial complex, where the monument to Boško Buha, erected in 1970, is located.

Of particular importance to the local community was the public discussion titled The Future of Jabuka. The conversation, moderated by director Vladimir Milovanović, focused on the future development and potential of the local community, as well as the key challenges faced by residents of Jabuka. Participants identified the deteriorating condition of the Boško Buha Memorial Complex as well as pressing municipal issues—including the lack of access to drinking water and the absence of an organized waste collection service—as the community’s most urgent concerns. These issues significantly affect both the daily lives of local residents and the tourism potential of the area.
