Svi UGLAS! is a project that uses music and choral singing as tools for social development. It actively promotes the social inclusion and empowerment of the Roma community, works to reduce discrimination against Roma among the wider population, and fosters intercultural dialogue in Serbia. The programme was created around the idea that music has the power to connect people and give a voice to those who are too often unheard in society.
The project’s distinctive approach combines artistic production with education and social activism. Support from the Culture for Democracy programme enabled Roma children and young people to develop their talents through a series of workshops, while also providing an opportunity for anyone who enjoys singing and wishes to learn about Roma culture to engage with it, create together, and perform alongside members of the Roma community. In doing so, the project nurtured empathy, tolerance, and solidarity. As part of the programme, Art Aparat organised 34 music workshops in Belgrade and 10 music workshops in Smederevo and Niš, involving a total of 160 participants.
The project also included eight intercultural workshops, two of which were large public intercultural events held in Belgrade. The highlight of the programme was the Svi UGLAS! concert in Smederevo, featuring more than 125 performers in front of an audience of 600.
In addition, a promotional video was produced and released to raise awareness of the importance of intercultural dialogue and to contribute to the empowerment of children and young people through culture and the arts, while supporting education and increasing awareness of minority rights.
