Nora Ahmetaj

Nora Ahmetaj specialises in human rights, conflict transformation, and transitional justice and is a long-term fellow of the Bosch Foundation Global Network. She served on the Regional Coordination Council of Coalitions for the establishment of the Regional Truth Commission (RECOM), was a research fellow at Columbia University, and was an O’Brien Fellow in Residence Program at McGill Law School’s Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism in Montreal. She was a senior member of the Preparatory Team to establish the Kosovo Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Nora received human rights and international relations training at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, followed by classes at New School University, Fletcher School for Law and Diplomacy, and she received an MPhil in Peace and Conflict Transformation Studies from the University of Tromso, Norway. Nora’s research was focused on the economic dimensions of reconciliation and its reciprocal relationship with progress, particularly within the business communities of Kosovo and Serbia. The core findings of this research shows that economic development and reconciliation are not separate realms; they are like intertwined paths, where prosperity plays a role in healing historical wounds. To make economic progress stick, it is important to have smart plans, focus on specific sectors, and involve innovative ideas. At the same time, it is important to continue encouraging the region to cooperate by involving young people who are essential for successful development.
