Stefan Marić

My name is Stefan Marić (30) from Belgrade. I am a graduate student at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade, specializing in Economic Analysis and Policy. I have worked as an economic analyst and researcher on various projects for civil society organizations, including the Initiative for Economic and Social Rights – A11. I contribute articles to several domestic and regional portals, such as Machine (Serbian: Mašina), the Regional Bulletin portal, and Freely Philosophical (Serbian: Slobodni Filozofski). As a young progressive economist, I believe it is crucial to address the harmful effects of the late neoliberal economic system and advocate for alternative economic policies. I am a member of the Green-Left Front, joining through the socio-economic group of the movement Don’t let Belgrade drown (Serbian: Ne davimo Beograd). One of my first articles, focusing on the situation of internally displaced persons living in informal collective centers, predominantly of Roma nationality, was published on the prestigious francophone portal about the Balkans, Le Courrier des Balkans. I frequently provide economic forecasts for local media outlets, such as BIRN. Through Heartefact’s project, I aim to achieve a just ecological transition in Serbia, recognizing the need for further education and activism, especially among young people. I plan to initiate a research and educational project on ecological issues such as lithium mining in Serbia, air pollution, and energy poverty. This project will involve conducting field research, educating the population, and motivating them to take action. I intend to focus on young people by organizing programs, such as visits to Gornje Nedeljice and Bor, and engaging in discussions with local activists.
