Constitution and Citizens’ Rights – GRUPA GRUPA (and Center E8 and Kombinart)

Project Description: “Constitution and Citizens’ Rights” is based on the socio-political self-education of artists and young people, aiming to inform the public about the significance of democracy. The problem addressed by the supported project is the insufficient attention that the education system allocates to social, political, and legal education, especially in the education of artists which often results in politically apathetic youth and artists resorting to escapist representations, exhibitions, etc.

The main activity involves a theatrical performance based on interpretations of the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia. The performance is developed through research and collaboration with experts in the field of legal and humanities, public lectures, debates, workshops, and more. The entire process is documented, and the materials are then used in the production of a series, campaigns, and artistic exhibitions. The project concludes with a conference aimed at fostering models for further collaboration among partner organizations.

The premiere of the play “Constitution” took place at the opening of the 9th ANFITEATAR festival in Kraljevo, followed by the Belgrade premiere at the Dorćol Platz. Parallel to the preparation of the play, the partner association Kombinart from Šabac participated in all workshops and then organized the exhibition “Constitution and Citizens’ Rights.” The editorial team of the youth portal Zoomer recorded interviews with all expert collaborators, which were edited into a web series featuring five experts answering the same questions about the observance/violation of the Constitution in the Republic of Serbia.

Through this support, political, legal, and democratic education was provided for artists and young volunteers involved in the play, offering a deeper understanding of the importance of democracy to a broader audience. Project partners include the Center E8 from Belgrade and Kombinart from Šabac.
