Project Description: The theater play “On the Ledge” based on the text “Norway Today” by Swiss writer Igor Bauersima, directed by the young director Zoran Zarubica and performed by actors Nikola Pavlović and Maja Šuša, is based on the story of two young people who meet on the internet and decide to travel together and commit suicide. Very quickly, when they experience genuine exchange and closeness for the first time, they abandon this idea, turning this existential romantic drama with elements of comedy to important themes: youth and mental health, the impact of social media on the mental health of young people, youth in the pandemic, and suicide. According to the World Health Organization, every 40 seconds, one person loses their life due to suicide, making it the second leading cause of death among young people aged 15 to 29. Most adolescents who lost their lives to suicide (90%) were from low or middle-income countries, including Serbia. The play addresses young people in Serbia, especially those in cities without a developed theater offering. Through this support, a successful theater play was produced, premiered in Pančevo, and then performed in ten more cities in Serbia. Around 2000 young people had the opportunity to watch the play for free, and discussions with a psychologist were organized to encourage them to speak more openly about their feelings, mental health, and to seek professional help if/when needed. Since institutional theaters are rarely open to collaborations with independent artistic groups, this is an important form of support for a young authorial team and the independent theater scene. The play has continued its theatrical and festival life.
