Project description: The Association for Nature and Society “Multivox” from Niš launched and organized the Recycling and Circular Art Festival “CircleArt” with the message “0% Waste, 100% Culture.” The festival addresses themes of “green transformation” in art and culture, sustainability, and DIY culture. It is the first of its kind, not only in Niš but also in southeastern Serbia. The CfD project provided support for two phases: the preparation period and the organization of the three-day festival in September 2023. In the preparation phase, a project team was formed, and a contest was announced for students of the Department of Applied Arts at the Faculty of Arts in Niš to create the visual identity of the festival. The winning design was selected, followed by workshops such as “Creating a Zen Art Garden” for children, “Pinhole Analog Photography,” and the workshop on designing clothing from discarded and recycled materials titled “Maybe I’m Plastic Too!” The three-day “CircleArt Festival – 0% Waste, 100% Culture” offered free programs and content for the Niš audience, including: a three-day choir activism workshop; artistic interventions; an exhibition of works by students from the Faculty of Arts as a result of the public call for the festival’s visual identity; debates; acoustic concerts; documentary film screenings on eco-activism in southeastern Serbia; aworkshop on planting potted ornamental and herbal plants; clothes-swapping events and a workshop on redesigning second-hand clothing; a record and comic book exchange; bicycle servicing and a presentation of the results of workshops conducted during the summer preparation period. The “CircleArt” Festival represents a bold step forward on Niš’s artistic and activist scene, as it promotes and opens new topics and fields such as green transition in art and culture, DIY culture, circular and sustainable art, education, and raising awareness about the impact of climate change and crises on art and culture, as well as the zero-waste model and concept. Given the limited number of actors on the local scene addressing these topics, whether through scientific research, management, or artistic practice, the importance of this initiative is even greater.
