Project description: Bašta Fest is an international short feature film festival that has been held in July in Baja Bašta since 2014. Relying on the tourism potential of the region, a large part of the program takes place in nature (Borići Park, Lake Perućac and Zaovine). The festival is primarily intended for young filmmakers from Serbia and the world, as well as the audience of short and original films from all over the country, with a special emphasis on the population of the Zlatibor district. The festival, in addition to a rich film program, also offers a musical, educational and accompanying (ecological) program, which influences the development of the audience and the local population by offering them quality cultural content, and provides an opportunity for the promotion of short films and young authors who do not have enough space to show their works and education about the short film. Bašta Fest is significant for the decentralization of culture, since Bajina Bašta has only one cultural institution that does not have a regular cinema or theater repertoire, nor capacity for content production. During the four days of the festival, 25 films from 15 countries were shown, and excursions were organized for the participants, an educational program (Bašta Pič), a musical program, and environmental actions. With this support, the public in Bajana Bašta was able to watch a film program in the open air for free on the topics of human and minority rights, gender equality, peer violence, environmental protection… With over 5,000 visitors, the open-air Bašta Festa is one of the places where the largest number of audiences watching short films in Serbia.
