Since 2023, the organization has been managing the Alternative Residential Center – ARC Dve Babe, which operates year-round, making it necessary to professionally design curatorial programs. As part of this support, curator Maida Gruden was engaged to work with representatives of the organization and other curators and artists who responded to ZMUC’s call to define the “ideal residency.” Together, they expanded their knowledge of the needs of artists working in various media today and identified the necessary conditions for their uninterrupted stay. Additionally, they developed the concept for the future form of the ideal residency at ARC Dve Babe. An analysis of the real needs of artists revealed that the artist is no longer simply a producer of art. For this reason, ZMUC has long advocated for what they call a “flexible residency” (without time constraints, predetermined themes, mandatory production, or a required notice period months in advance). Responding to ZMUC’s call, art historians, curators, professors, visual and multimedia artists, journalists, and directors joined curator Maida Gruden to start developing a future strategy. Moreover, a survey of the cultural needs of residents from 17 villages in the Sopot Municipality was conducted, and cultural institutions from Sopot, primarily CZK Sopot, participated in the project. There, a conversation was held with the target audience, members of the Zapis Kosmaja association, which consists mainly of women working to valorize the natural resources of Sopot’s villages and the Kosmaj Mountain. After systematizing the knowledge and experiences gathered from mobile residencies, the exchange of knowledge with Maida Gruden resulted in guidelines for the development of residencies. These guidelines will influence the design of specific programs and the adaptation of spaces to different purposes, meeting all the needs of contemporary artists. The significant response from artists and the public to the media presentation of the Ideal Artistic Residency – ARC Dve Babe – broadens ZMUC’s existing scope of interest and requires further expansion of the narrative about artistic freedom. In the upcoming period, ZMUC plans to apply the curator’s recommendations in practice, as well as suggestions from other participants, to move beyond the established and previously applied rules of “ideal residencies,” which have proven difficult to forget or disregard.

Grant amount: 358.000,00 RSD

[202,195,273,193,205
183,184
post-18318","uspesni-projekti","type-uspesni-projekti","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","filter-tag-creators-of-cultural-policies","filter-tag-local-community","filter-tag-ngo-employees","filter-tag-researchers-of-cultural-policies","filter-tag-women","oblast-cultural-policy-and-management","oblast-multidisciplines

Podržani Projekti | Heartefact

<meta property="og:description" content="Project description: The ZMUC Art Association does not have permanent curators, but instead selects collaborators on a project basis.
