The theater program of Pride Week 2023, which will take place from September 4th to September 10th, brings relevant and exciting performances to the stage that explore diversity, identity, and social relationships. Heartefact, for the fifth consecutive year, is organizing this program, which includes plays produced by Heartefact and two regional theater productions that will be performed in Belgrade for the first time.

The opening of the theater program for Pride Week is reserved for the monodrama “(Mis)fit,” a work by actor and director Luka Mihovilović in collaboration with actress and director Gea Gojak. “(Mis)fit” is a play produced by the Istrian National Theater – City Theater Pula. Leading the audience through various stages of the author’s life, the play explores the life journey of the protagonist, touching on themes of diversity, prejudices, and social values. The play will be performed on September 4th at 9:00 PM at the Bitef Theater.

The next day, DorćolPlatz will host the ensemble of the play “The Sworn Virgin,” produced by Qendra Multimedia from Prishtina, based on the text by Jeton Neziraj and directed by Erson Zimberi. “The Sworn Virgin” tells the story of women who live their lives as men, gaining certain privileges reserved for men in those regions, but also paying the price in terms of their own sexuality. The play features Tringa Hasani, Semira Latifi, and Kushtrim Qerimi and will be performed on September 5th at 9:00 PM at Dorćol Platz.

On September 6th and 7th at 9:00 PM, the program will move to the Hartefact House venue (Bulevar Despota Stefana 7), where two Hartefact plays will be performed.

The first is “Before We Begin” by Tijana Grumić and Jug Đorđević, one of the most award-winning young directors in Serbia. The play raises questions about the rights and responsibilities of artists in addressing social inequalities while highlighting the position of marginalized social groups. The cast includes Ema Muratović, Matija Stefanović, and Aleksander Zain. The play will be performed on September 6th at 9:00 PM.

On September 7th at 9:00 PM, the program features the hit play “Our Son” by Hartefact, which, after successful regional and European performances, continues its run as part of “Pride Week.” This author’s project by director Patrik Lazić is an intimate story that explores the boundaries of acceptance and rejection, as well as the limits of parental love after their son comes out.

The end of the program will feature significant surprises for the loyal audience of Hartefact House on Friday, September 8th.

Pride Week serves as preparation for the Pride March, which starts on Saturday, September 9th, from Manjež Park at 4:00 PM. Through a diverse artistic, debating, and entertaining program, this week reflects on themes of identity, (in)equality, and the need for transformation.
